What’s New

Here are some of the new and notable things for our 2024 Christmas in Little Washington celebration…

All Parking at Rappahannock County High School
This year all parking, including handicapped parking, will be at Rappahannock County High School with frequent shuttle buses to get everyone safely to-and-from the event. Please park at the high school, hop on a shuttle bus (including handicap/wheelchair accessible buses) for a quick, five-minute ride into the town and enjoy the day! Buses will start running from the high school at 10am with frequent trips until the last bus leaves town and returns to the high school at 4.30pm.

Additional Food Vendors
No doubt we love our local food and beverage vendors! We’re so spoiled with the variety of really top-quality food and beverages available in this small-but-perfectly-formed corner of the country. As regular attendees know all too well, hungry mouths have eaten our vendors clean out of food in the past, so we’ve added new vendors to the team keeping everyone fed this year. We have also added two outdoor seating areas, one on the patio at Ours Noir and one in the open lot next to 257 Gay St.
If you prefer lighter fare there will be treats (coffee, baked goods, cotton candy, chocolates etc) at Avon Hall along with spirits by Copper Fox Distillery with original spirits and cocktails and Pen Druid Fermentation pouring Wood-fired, Spontaneous, Barrel-fermented & Coolshipped Native Beer, Natural Cider and Wine.

Artisans
This year our artisans market has a new, festive look to it! The artisans are chosen specifically to reflect the talent from the surrounding area. With some new artisans and some old favorites, you’ll be sure to find gifts for Christmas, or just because, why not?

More Free Kids Activities
In addition to the annual favorites (pony rides, face painting, cookie decorating, story-telling, coloring activity and, of course, Santa!), we have the fun addition of a Treasure Hunt!
Created by the wonderfully imaginative Sperryfest Treasure Hunt designer, locally made Gnomes will be placed around the town of Little Washington. Find all 10 adorable gnomes, and you will receive a Christmas tree ornament of your own to take home!

The Parade!
It’s rumored the behind-the-scenes preparations of some of our Parade Participants has involved detailed sketches, plans and designs! Our Parade director has been a busy bee working with over 40 enthusiastic, creative and hard-working participants. Parade begins at 1pm in front of Avon Hall and continues through the streets of Little Washington.
To add to the fun, this year there will be prizes for parade participants! The panel of four judges will have a tough time trying to pick out the best float. Maybe we can influence the decision-making by cheering the loudest for our favorite display as it goes past?

Photo Locations for Your Socials with #CILW24
It could reasonably be argued that our beautiful county is a year-round photo opportunity. For some additional fun this year, we will be creating four photogenic backdrop locations around the town and at Avon Hall with festive photo banners. Corral the kids, attempt to keep them still for a brief second and snap a cute Christmas picture. Then, if you share it to social media, tag your pics with #CILW24. Rappahannock News will be sharing as many of the #CILW24 photos as they can following the event.

More Entertainment
While the parade is the main attraction, we have added lots of other fun entertainment this year. This includes a stilt-walker and jugglers with live music in the former Ours Noir building by locals Lisbeth Sabol & Casey Firkin. And, during the parade, we will have a Master of Ceremonies!

We’ve Gone Green!
This year Christmas in Little Washington is proud to have earned the Virginia Green Festival Certification. As a key part of our mission, we want to have a positive impact on our natural environment. Tap this link to learn more about how green we are!

Pets?
Nope. Please, no. Pets are NOT encouraged to attend and, if they do join you, pets MUST be on a leash. A leash is optional for children. The concern for pets is the quantity and close proximity of a variety of animals including horses… and some really huge horses.
